According to an initiative by UN's World Food Programme called School Feeding Programme, date bars are distributed in schools of Yemen. initiative began last year. However, it is unfortunate that some students received rotten date bars.
Schools in Yemen received rotten date bars
UN’s food assistance ncy started distributing date bars since last year to students in Taiz’s schools. According to officials, initiative was welcomed by students, teachers and guardians. However, school authorities are well aware that sometimes students are fed with rotten date bars. School Principal Mohammed Aidarous told international media that, y are well aware that re are rotten date bars and asked students to t eat m. He furr ded that it is t possible to figure out if y are rotten or t until packet is opened. According to WFP, currently y have distributed date bars in more than 1,500 schools for 665,000. organization has a target to feed 1.2 million children in

Parents and School authorities ask for investigation
parents of students are angry and have asked school authorities to ask for investigation. school principal confirmed that y were supplied with rotten dates even last year. But when WFP was informed, ir team withdrew rotten date bars, but this year re was response from m. parents feel that school should be safest place for ir kids but inste, y are being served with rotten and foul-smelling date bars. Aidarous said that he accepted cartons of date bars only after checking ir expiry date was January 2020, but some date bars were rotten before expiry. refore, he informed education office in Taiz and called a UN ncy for investigation.

Fresh stock to be soon dispatched
WFP informed global media that y immediately stopped School Feeding Programme and called for an investigation. spokesperson of WFP reported that according to ir findings problem was with packaging of date bars and said that WFP is taking back all date bars and a fresh stock will soon be dispatched from different manufacturing branches. According to doctors, rotten date bars can have negative effects on health of students. This is t first time, earlier people of Yemen received rotten flour and y demanded WFP to take it back.
