UNSC meets in-person for the first time in three-and-a-half months after Covid lockdown

The members of the UNSC held an in-person meeting on June 1 for the first time in three and a half months since in-person meeting were stopped in mid-March.

For first time since mid-March, members of UN Security Council held an in-person meeting on June 1. As per reports, details of meeting were anunced by council's president for month for July, German Ambassor to United Nations Christoph Heusgen in a press briefing. Heusgen also ded that he hoped that Security Council would return to its regular meeting schedule during his tenure as President.

A 'good and informative' UNSC meeting

In press briefing, Heusgen said: "We h for first time since for almost three and a half months a physical meeting of members of Security Council,". He ded that all ambassors met in Permanent Mission of Germany to United Nations wherein y h a good and informative discussion.

United Nations Security Council stopped meeting in person when New York was placed under lockdown in an effort to combat dely coronavirus pandemic. 15-member body began to hold virtual meetings from n on. In regards to virtual meeting sessions, Heusgen has said that "It's much more convenient and much better for atmosphere if we meet in person, but, of course, it has to take place under conditions that are compatible with all medical implications,”.

According to reports, United Nations is under phase 0 of a physical return after coronavirus pandemic. It is expected that first phases will begin in August and even n will only allow 400 employees to return to work on any given day.
