US and UN optimistic about Israel-Lebanon maritime talks, inform of significant progress

United States and United Nations on Thursday, October 29 said that initials talks between Israel and Leban have turned out to be productive and are scheduled to resume in vember. For first time ever, Israel and Leban have entered into direct talks over a longstanding maritime border dispute. As per reports, talks were held inside a tent in a sourn Lebanese border town and were hosted by United Nations with US mediating.

Talks between two hostile nations makes progress
Israel and Leban have formal diplomatic ties and are technically at war; se talks mark first n-security dialogue between two countries. While talks are scheduled to resume next month, official date has been set.
On Lebanese side, talks were led by army and reportedly lasted for four hours on Thursday. A joint statement mentioned that Israel and Leban h me significant progress during ir multiple talks which were held on October 14, 28 and 29, and ded that US and UN bodies present hoped that talks would le to a resolution to dispute.

While eir side is yet to make a comment on talks, reports claim that Leban plans to take a ‘maximalist stance’ and will bring new maps to negotiating table that could include lucrative oil and gas fields. Reacting to reports, an Israeli official said that Israel would t accept Leban’s approach which y believe would encroach on ir Karish gas field.
