US, UK, EU, UNHCR to co-host donor conference, call for assisting Rohingya refugees
The US, the UK, European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) Refugee Agency will be co-hosting a donor conference on October 22 for Rohingya crisis.

United States (US), UK, European Union (EU) and United Nations (UN) Refugee ncy will be co-hosting a dor conference on October 22 to promote support for Rohingya refugees and host nations. In a statement, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on October 15 said that all nations will play a role in bringing global community toger to dress Rohingya crisis in a virtual conference.
US, UK, EU, and UNHCR would urge nations to enhance ir assistance for Rohingya refugees, host communities as well as internally displaced people in Myanmar who fled country after crisis began in August 2017. In wake of same situation, UN has appealed for over $1 billion in aid to meet humanitarian needs of refugees in Banglesh this year. However, UNHCR said that “so far less than half has been contributed”. This has furr left created a “significant gap” in assisting Rohingya refugees, which has worsened amid unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

UNHCR said, “ conference, which will take place on 22 October, aims to raise urgently needed funds to help vulnerable displaced Rohingya living in and outside of ir native Myanmar. funds raised are also expected to support critical services in host communities throughout South and Souast Asia.”

UN Refugee ncy also said that dor conference will also be an opportunity for co-hosts - US, UK, EU to reiterate that any sustainable solution to crisis must include a voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable return of refugees along with or displaced people back to ir homes or a place of ir desire.

US ‘proud’ to stand with co-hosts
US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen E Biegun, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, EU’s Commissioner for Crisis Manment Janez Lenarčič and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi also gave out separate statements reiterating that y are willing to tackle Rohingya crisis. While Grandi called for solidarity with refugees, Raab said that UK has been leing dor since 2017. Biegun also ted that United States is “proud” to stand with co-hosts in leing call for a response.
US Deputy Secretary of State said, “ United States is proud to stand with UK, EU, and UN High Commissioner for Refugees as partners in leing this call to sustain international crisis response to assist Rohingya refugees and or displaced people, as well as strengn investment in affected host communities.”
