Actor and activist Jamie Foxx was among the 500 attendees at the memorial for George Floyd in Houston. Mourners wearing masks against the coronavirus packed a Houston church a little more than two weeks after Floyd was pinned to the pavement by a white Minneapolis police officer who put a knee on his neck for what prosecutors said was 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
Foxx has been vocal about the killing of George Floyd and has attended protests in Minnesota. The actor, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of legendary singer Ray Charles, is touring the country to join peaceful rallies protesting police violence.
After the memorial Tuesday, Foxx posed for photos. He also told a reporter that Floyd's death felt different because people "got a chance to see what we've been saying for the longest."
He also said he was inspired by everyone coming together for the service.
