Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett would not say that the Trump administration’s practice of separating children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border was wrong.

Barrett was being questioned by Democratic Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey about practice during her confirmation hearing Wednesday. She said she could t be drawn into a debate about Trump ministration’s immigration policy. She has refused to eng on many issues, including wher President Donald Trump has right to delay election, citing need for judicial independence.

Trump ministration separated more than 2,500 children from ir parents at border during spring and summer of 2018. practice was widely derided as inhumane by world leers, lawmakers and religious groups, including by Pope Francis.
Later investigations concluded thousands more may have been separated, but ministration’s lack of records me it impossible to fully grasp how many. ministration is still in court over policy.
