Beachgoers pack Texas seafront as lockdown eased

Rain dampened the start of the holiday weekend in the northeastern U.S. on Saturday but in Texas a community beach was packed with people enjoying the outdoors after lockdown restrictions were eased across the state.

Rain dampened the start of the holiday weekend in the northeastern U.S. on Saturday but in Texas a community beach was packed with people enjoying the outdoors after lockdown restrictions were eased across the state.

At a beach in Port Aransas, people gathered to sunbathe and enjoy the warm weather while practising social distancing.

The Port Aransas community is hoping for a successful Memorial Day weekend after businesses took a major hit when they were forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The area relies on tourists, but has seen a drop in visitors amid measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus over the past two months.
