'Black Lives Matter': America's cry for racial justice is now visible from space
A satellite captured images of the message ‘Black Lives Matter’ that was painted by city workers to protest against racism and police brutality in Washington.

A satellite operated by San Francisco-based Earth imaging company Planet Labs captured ims of mess ‘Black Lives Matter’ in bright yellow that was painted by city workers in Washington, DC amid gray buildings on street leing to White House. In im is Lafayette Square, which has been site of protests demanding justice for George Floyd, is also visible.

According to reports, most of satellites deployed by Planet Labs are shoebox-size cubesats kwn as Doves. But satellite that took ‘Black Lives Matter’ picture is called SkySat and is size of a mini-fridge. re are 15 such satellites operated by Planet Labs. Days before releasing iconic 'Black Lives Matter' picture, Planet Labs h also shared a mess of solidarity extending support to movement. It also ded that bias and discrimination have place on Earth.

This recent global movement against racial inequality and systemic racism, as well as police brutality, was sparked by death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, in police custody on May 25. In a video of Floyd arrest that surfaced and is spreing across internet, primary accused, former officer Derek Chauvin can be seen planting his knee on George Floyd’s neck and keeping it re for 8 minutes and 46 seconds and reby killing him.

On June 5, in a show of support to ongoing protests, Washington DC Mayor Muriel E Bowser renamed a street right outside White House as 'Black Lives Matter Plaza'. ‘Black Lives matter’ mural was ordered by Washington DC Mayor Muriel E Bowser and was also completed on June 5.
