Bob Marley's kids celebrate late reggae icon's 75th birthday

Bob Marley’s children, including Cedella Marley, Julian Marley and Rohan Marley, and several of his grandchildren held a pre-Grammys brunch Friday alongside Universal Music and Mastercard in Los Angeles — about two weeks before Jamaican singer's Feb. 6 birthdate. Bob Marley died of cancer in 1981, at 36.

event also celebrated Julian Marley, who is minated for best reggae album at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
Cedella Marley, a three-time Grammy winner, said her far, who died in 1981, taught his children important lessons about perseverance.

“Ddy was a fitness guru ... and re were times when we would do se relay races and a lot of parents just want ir children to win, win, win. , we h to really win,” she said. “If we run, we have to really run. And he was t one that was just going to let you win just because, and I think that’s an important lesson. thing is handed to you, you have to go out re (and work hard).”
Bob Marley’s kids passed that mess on to ir own children, who were in attendance Friday. Skip Marley, Cedella Marley’s son who has collaborated with Katy Perry, H.E.R. and Major Lazer, said he didn’t choose music, but that “music chose me.”

“All of us carry it on,” Skip Marley said of or grandchildren, “Even to some new streets and avenues (while) protecting mess and continuing to carry light.”
Mystic Marley, Zuri Marley, Nico Marley, Shacia Marley and Joshua Omaru Marley — son of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley — also attended event.

“This is Lauryn’s boy,” Rohan Marley said, looking to Joshua Omaru Marley.
“He’s my son but y always say, ‘Oh! Lauryn Hill’s son and Bob Marley’s grandson,’” he said to laughs. “I’m like, ‘OK. problem. I’ll take that!’”

Joshua Omaru Marley said that he’s working on new music and that Hill will be featured on his project. He said his Grammy-winning mor has given him “positive feedback” about his music but ded: “re’s always room for improvement.”
Nico Marley, Rohan Marley’s son who h signed with NFL’s Washington Redskins as an undrafted free nt in 2017, joked about being oddball Marley onst.
“I’m just gl I have some kind of talent because it wasn’t singing,” he said as audience erupted in laughter. “I’m in back clapping. I can’t even sing. t even a little bit.”
