US Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson on Thursday defended President Donald Trump against charges of racism.

Carson, who spoke on the final night of the Republican National Convention, praised Trump's record in office while attacking Democrats for inciting division.

"President Trump does not dabble in identity politics. He wants everyone to succeed and believes in the adage a rising tide lifts all boats. Many on the other side love to incite division by claiming that President Trump is a racist They could not be more wrong."

Carson added Americans face a stark choice of limited or big government in November's presidential election.

"Our president, Donald J. Trump believes in the people. He is one of us. He makes promises and he keeps them," Carson said.

President Trump scheduled speech brings the scaled-back Republican National Convention to a close later on Thursday.
