China doing very poorly as a result of trade war: Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has said that China is doing very poorly as a result of the trade war and the "longer it goes on, the stronger we get".

US President Donald Trump has said that China is doing very poorly as a result of trade war and "longer it goes on, stronger we get".

Asserting that United States is "having a very good discussion" on a trade deal with China, Trump told reporters at Morristown airport in New Jersey that he will speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping "very soon".

On protests in Hong Kong which have been going on since early June, US president said that Xi can "humanely" solve problem so that "everybody is happy".

"I think longer trade war goes on, weaker China gets and stronger we get. We're taking in massive amounts of money. Billions and billions of dollars. And I think longer it goes, stronger we get. I have a feeling it's going to go fairly short," he said on Thursday.

As a result of trade war, China is doing very poorly, Trump said.  " tariffs have really bitten into China. y haven't bitten into us at all except for reporters that want to make it look that way, but y don't understand what's happening," he said.

"We've taken close to USD 60 billion in tariff money. consumer has t paid for m. w, at some point, y may have to pay something. But y understand that," Trump asserted.

He claimed that millions of jobs have been lost and thousands of companies are shutting down in China.

"y'd love to have somebody like (former vice president Joe) Biden, who doesn't kw what he's doing. I mean, I just put a clip where he said, 'Oh, we want to build up China'. Well, y gave us a very strong China which has taken out over USD 500 billion a year for many years from our country.  And that's t going to happen anymore," he said.

Trump, however, said that US is having a very good discussion on a trade deal with China.

"We're having very good discussions with China. y very much want to make a deal. We'll see what happens. We had a deal and y decided t to make it. w, I think y would like to have that opportunity again," US president said.

"We have a call scheduled soon. We'll be speaking with him (Xi Jinping) very soon," he said.

To a question on protests in Hong Kong, Trump said, "I really believe he (Chinese President Xi Jinping) can work it out. I kw him well. If he wants to he can work Trump 'concerned' by risk of violent Hong Kong crackdown

Morristown (US) Aug 16 (AFP) US President Donald Trump has said that he is "concerned" about risk of a violent Chinese crackdown in Hong Kong, but that he would soon be talking to President Xi Jinping.

"I am concerned," he told reporters in New Jersey on Thursday before travelling to a campaign rally.

Trump urged Xi to negotiate directly with pro-democracy protesters, saying: "I would be willing to bet that if he sat down with protesters... I'll bet he'd work it out in 15 minutes, I kw it's t kind of thing he does," US president added. He also said that a phone call was scheduled for him to talk "soon with President Xi."
