Describing China’s human rights record as “deplorable”, US on Tuesday said Beijing’s efforts to disguise it must be countered with more transparency, discussion and truth, as Washington applauded several UN human rights independent experts for “courously” expressing concern over Chinese moves against people of Hong Kong, mirities in Xinjiang and Tibet.

“ world has kwn about Chinese Communist Party’s gross and systematic abuses of human rights for decades, but too often turned a blind eye. I salute United Nations special rapporteurs and human rights experts for courously breaking this silence and standing up for Chinese people,” US Permanent Representative to UN Ambassador Kelly Craft said in a statement.

y also raided concerns to detention of lawyers and prosecution and disappearances of human rights defenders across country, allegations of forced labour in various sectors of formal and informal ecomy, as well as arbitrary interferences with right to privacy, to cybersecurity laws that authorise censorship and broadly worrying anti-terrorism and sedition laws applicable in Hong Kong.

People’s Republic of China’s “human rights record is deplorable, and its efforts to disguise that record must be countered with more transparency, more discussion, and more truth, as UN’s founders envisioned,” she said adding that Trump administration will “continue to lead those efforts, and will take every opportunity to give voice to those in Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, and elsewhere who are prevented from using irs.” Craft said experts revealed true state of human rights in China and ir statement outlined Chinese Communist Party’s “systematic repression of religious and ethnic mirities, disappearance and detention of lawyers and human rights defenders, and regime’s use of forced labour.” Craft urged all her counterparts at United Nations and in international organisations around world to take te of statement.

UN human rights independent experts had said that it is time for “renewed attention” on human rights situation in China, particularly in light of moves against people of Hong Kong SAR, mirities of Xinjiang Automous Region, Tibet Automous Region, and human rights defenders across country.

y said se measures could possibly include a special session to evaluate range of violations indicated in this statement and generally, establishment of an impartial and independent United Nations mechanism - such as a United Nations Special Rapporteur, a Panel of Experts appointed by HRC, or a Secretary General Special Envoy - to closely monitor, analyse and report annually on human rights situation in China, particularly, in view of urgency of situations in Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet.
