Donald Trump mulls payment of 10% of earlier limit to WHO, says 'no final decision made'

The US President has been criticised for freezing all its funds to the organisation on April 14. Trump has also accused WHO of being “China-centric”

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump said that his administration was considering numerous proposals about World Health Organisation, including paying 10 per cent of its former level. However, US President claimed that decision has yet been made and  WHOs funding remains frozen. United States of America is largest debtor of Geneva-based organisation and its earlier contributions amounted for a whopping $400 million every year.

US President has been criticised for halting all its funds to organisation on April 14. Accusing WHO of being “China-centric”, Trump has called for a review of organisation. However, WHO officials and China had repeatedly denied all   allegations and claimed that y were both honest and transparent in ir handling of global health crisis.

'Matching China' 

When Trump had made anuncement of abandoning WHO, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that ‘w is t that time’ to halt funds. While talking to a Russian news ncy, UN chief also said that since COVID-19 pandemic is introducing world with unforeseen circumstances, it requires ‘unprecedented response’ by global community. As coronavirus infections across world have surpassed four million, Guterres urged leaders to first tackle global health crisis and when it is all over, re will be time to ‘look back fully’ and analyse drastic spread of disease that originated in China.
