In a statement released Friday, the FBI confirmed that former President Donald Trump was struck by a bullet from the rifle of the 20-year-old gunman who attempted to assassinate him. The revelation came after FBI Director Christopher Wray previously indicated uncertainty over whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that injured Trump.

The FBI clarified, "What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject's rifle." This confirms earlier speculation and provides a clearer understanding of the events.

Here is what else you need to know

Wray had earlier told the House Judiciary Committee that the shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, had flown a drone near the event site hours before the attack and was found to be in possession of multiple explosive devices. Crooks was positioned on the roof of a warehouse complex outside the event's security perimeter when he fired multiple shots at Trump.

During the incident, a Secret Service sniper shot and killed Crooks after he had discharged at least eight rounds, which resulted in one death and injuries to Trump and two others. Representatives for Trump have not yet commented on the FBI's statement.

The information shared by FBI answers and important question, the question being whether or not Trump was actually bleeding due to a bullet wound.
