The brother of George Floyd offered wrenching testimony before the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday, a day after funeral services for the 46-year-old Minnesota man whose death triggered global protests and calls for police reform.
Philonise Floyd's testimony captivated the room as he recounted what he saw in the widely viewed video as a Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee into George Floyd's neck while other officers stood by. Officer Derek Chauvin is now charged with murder, and three others also face charges.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler asked Philonise Floyd if he could think of any reason for the incident, Floyd told Nadler his brother and Chauvin both worked at the same place.
"I think it was personal," Philonise Floyd testified. "Because they worked at the same place. So, for him to do something like that, it had to be premeditated and he wanted to do it.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said Wednesday investigators are looking into a report from CBS News that the men had "bumped heads" working at the El Nuevo Rodeo nightclub in Minneapolis.
