Harvard Business School's Dean Nitin hria will step down from his post in June 2020, ten years after he became first Indian-origin acemician to helm business school in prestigious institution's 102-year-old history. In a letter to Business School community on Wednesday, hria said he will step down from position of Dean of Harvard Business School (HBS) on June 30, 2020, after a dece in role.
"I will take a sabbatical when I step down to reflect on what I may do next. I look forward to supporting our next Dean, as my predecessors supported me. I will always remain devoted to this most extraordinary institution that I have been so lucky to call t just my place of work, but my family's home," hria said.

In his mess to faculty, staff, students, and alumni, hria said time is right for HBS to transition to new leership. "Ten years gave us a good run to make progress on our 'Five I' priorities," he said, referring to School's focus on invation, intellectual ambition, internationalization, inclusion, and integration. He said serving as Dean has been a "privilege for which I am immensely grateful.

Nitin hria was 10th dean of Harvard Business School
hria, who h joined Business School's faculty in 1988 after receiving his Ph.D. from MIT, said HBS changed arc of his life. Appointed Business School's 10th Dean, hria said a dece for HBS's 10th dean seems an appropriate duration for this chapter in School's history. Before his appointment as Dean, hria h served in a number of leership roles at HBS, including as Chair of Organisational Behaviour Unit, Co-Chair of Leership Initiative, and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development, HBS said in a press release. hria has authored more than a dozen books and also wrote McKinsey Award-winning 2018 Harvard Business Review article, 'How CEOs Man Time'.

Thanking Drew Faust, who h served as Harvard's president from 2007 to 2018, for her support, hria said he will be grateful to her for her mentorship and inspirational vision. hria also expressed gratitude to President Larry Bacow for his leership, lauding his focus on issues of diversity, immigration, and inclusion. Faust said hria positioned HBS well to face 21st century by launching new pedagogies, investing in faculty and ir research and building bridges from Business School to or parts of Harvard, release stated. ting his appreciation for hria's superlative leership, Bacow said hria has led HBS with vision and wisdom, a canny sense of organizational dynamics, a humane concern for ors, and a relish for invation. Bacow said he would soon initiate a search for a new dean and plans to seek bro input in deciding on hria's successor.

Harvard Business School was found under hria's leership
In release, HBS said hria led significant transformation in key areas during his time as Dean. Harvard Business School Online (originally kwn as HBX), School's digital learning platform, was founded in 2014 under hria's leership. hria also spurred Harvard Business School's deeper engment with Harvard's or gruate and professional schools and led Campaign for HBS, a USD 1.4 billion fundraising effort that deepened alumni engment and strengned School's financial health, release said.
It ded that gifts to School supported faculty development, student financial aid, and ditions and enhancements to School's residential campus, including Tata Hall, Esteves Hall, Ruth Mulan Chu Chao Center, Klarman Hall, and Schwartz Common. During his deanship, HBS endowment grew from USD 2.1 to USD 3.8 billion as of June this year and School's annual revenues have grown from USD 509 million to nearly USD 1 billion. In 2010, Harvard Business School received a gift of USD 50 million from Tata Companies, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Tata Education and Development Trust, philanthropic entities of Tata Group. gift, largest from an international dor in school's history, funded a new acemic and residential building on HBS campus in Boston for participants in school's bro portfolio of Executive Education programs. building was named Tata Hall.

hria is a pass out from IIT Bombay
In September last year, hria stepped down from board of directors of Tata Sons. hria h been appointed as a n-executive director on Tata Sons Board in September 2013. His five-year term ended in September 2018. hria earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Indian Institute of Techlogy, Bombay and a Ph.D. in Manment from MIT's Sloan School of Manment. He was a visiting faculty member at London Business School in 1996. According to HBS press release, hria "serves on board of directors" of Boston-based global nprofit organization Bridgespan and on board of trustees of Massachusetts General Hospital. He also serves as an visor to Piramal Enterprises and Tata Sons, on visory board of Akshaya Patra.
