The advisor to the President of the United States, Ivanka Trump took to Twitter and applauded the efforts of Google, Trump administration and UC Santa Barbara for the achievement of quantum supremacy, a huge breakthrough for Google's quantum computing machine – Sycamore. This computer has solved a calculation in just three minutes and 20 seconds while a supercomputer would have taken at least 10,000 years to complete the same calculation according to Google. She on the behalf of the White House said that they signed the US National Quantum Initiative Act to support the Research and Development in the field of next-generation quantum technology. The US President Donald Trump signed the Quantum Initiative Act last year and authorised $1.2bn for quantum research.
Outperforming the fastest supercomputers
Page Break - the scientists at Google, on Wednesday, claimed that they have achieved "quantum supremacy" by developing a new generation machine that is better than the world's fastest supercomputers. This computer was capable of outperforming a normal computer by completing a calculation in just 200 seconds. After they made this claim the rivals at IBM also expressed scepticism on this move by Google. However, Google CEO Sundar Pichai appreciated the results and said that "For those of us working in science and technology, it's the 'hello world' moment we've been waiting for -- the most meaningful milestone to date in the quest to make quantum computing a reality”.

Technology used by Sycamore
Google also verified that the newly created machine – Sycamore had the ability to make the supercomputers perform thousands of trillions of calculations in seconds. Highlighting the difference between the regular computers and Sycamore, PTI reported that, normal computers function in a binary fashion, where, the tasks are carried out by using tiny fragments of data known as bits that are only either 1 or 0. However, the quantum computer – Sycamore uses the fragment of data called qubits that can be both 1 and 0 at the same time. This feature of the quantum computer is called superposition which enables them to crunch an enormous number of potential outcomes simultaneously.
