The American actor and a climate activist, Jane Fonda was arrested on October 11 for peacefully protesting against climate change outside the United States Capitol. The 81-year-old actor was among the 16 people who were reportedly arrested for unlawful protest. The actor joined the climate protests to take part in 'Fire Drill Fridays' and before being arrested, she said in her speech that climate change is a collective crisis that demands collective action. Fonda was later released by the police authorities.

A climate initiative that was inspired by Swedish teen environment activist, Greta Thunberg who said that climate emergency is demanding our actions like a house on fire because the situation in our planet is similar to that. Jane Fonda, along with other climate activists, indigenous leaders and experts have joined hands to demanding immediate actions on the ecological emergency. In the 'Fire Drill Friday,' the protesters have joined hands to gather outside the US Capitol every Thursday and Friday for a digital 'teach-in' session. It was under this initiative, that the 81-year old actor and other climate activists were delivering speeches on how severe the condition of our planet is. According to protesters, their opening session at the US Capitol was “amazing”.

Recently, Jane Fonda was among the latest inductees at the National Women's Hall of Fame. However, Fonda's selection led the Seneca Falls town supervisor to threaten to pull the funding from the site. An unpassed resolution by Greg Lazzaro stated that the actor's activism during the war of Vietnam had brought divisiveness to the country. Jane Fonda also faced heavy criticism after being photographed on top of the anti-aircraft gun in 1972 while on her visit to North Vietnam. The actor had later confessed that she regrets that moment when the picture was ed.
