Kamala Harris promises to introduce citizenship bill for 11 million undocumented migrants

While taking to Twitter, Harris promised to bring a bill to Congress with a roadmap to citizenship for 11 million undocumented people in the country.

US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on December 29 promised to bring a bill to Congress with a roadmap to citizenship for 11 million undocumented people in country. While taking to Twitter, Harris said that her first priority after assuming office would be to save lives from unprecedented coronavirus pandemic. She also vowed to join Paris climate agreement from which Trump administration had withdrawn earlier.

‘Dreamers’ act 

term ‘Dreamers’ refers to immigrant youth who qualify for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Mirs (DREAM) Act. programme gives temporary protection to undocumented migrants, who arrived in United States as children, to live and work in US without our fear of deportation. Previously, Trump administration had planned to scrap Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme created by Obama administration to give temporary, renewable protections to se young migrants. 

However, back in vember, a federal judge in New York rejected outgoing administration’s limitations on Dreamers. US district judge ruled that Trump’s Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf assumed his position unlawfully and ruling invalidated Wolf’s suspension of DACA.

Paris agreement 

Paris agreement, on or hand, was drafted in 2015 to strengn global response to threat of climate change. Trump administration had abandoned it formally on vember 4 after anuncing in it 2017. Trump has repeatedly criticised agreement for deteriorating ecomy and claimed that pact meant to take claimed action, could cost United States 2.5 million jobs by 2025.

However, w that US can still attend negotiations and present its opinions and is relegated to observer status, Biden had said that his administration will increase ambition of American domestic climate target and put country on a sustainable path to achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. This year, while world marked five-year anniversary of 2015 Paris Agreement, Biden said he would rejoin pack on first day of his presidency.
