U.S. Senator from California Kamala Harris talked about her mother’s journey from India to the United States during a Democratic debate for 2020 presidential elections. The first woman attorney general of California said that her mother arrived in America, alone, at the age of 19 with a mission to cure cancer. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, was supposed to have an arranged marriage but she got involved in the civil rights movement and met Donald Harris of Jamaican origin.
Harris's reason to run for the presidential elections
Kamala Harris said that her mother got separated when she was five-year-old.
“But my mother convinced us that we could do anything. And so I became the first woman attorney general of California, the second black woman elected to the United States Senate,” said Harris. She said that Donald Trump is the reason she is running for the presidential elections. “And I will tell you, that part of why I am running - because Donald Trump if he had his way, my story would not be possible,” she added.
Targeting Trump in her speeches
Harris, who has been constantly targeting the US President and demanding for his impeachment, said that she is running to make sure the American dream, values and ideals always hold true. “And so that's what is at stake in this election. And I believe I am uniquely able to see the commonalities among us and to speak the story of the American Dream and the need to reclaim it,” said Harris.
Harris requested Twitter CEO to suspend Trump's account
Kamala Harris had recently written a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to suspend Trump’s account citing violations of the user agreement. “These tweets represent a clear intent to baselessly discredit the whistleblower and officials in our government who are following the proper channels to report allegations of presidential impropriety, all while making blatant threats that put people at risk and our democracy in danger,” wrote Harris. But Twitter has decided not to suspend Trump’s account and gave a detailed explanation in a blog.
