Mayor: Chicago won't be punching bag for Trump

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, a Democrat, told reporters Tuesday that she has received assurances that, if deployed to Chicago, federal nts will t arrest or detain residents without any cause.

But she says city will be rey if that happens.

"Unfortunately, we can't put anything past Trump ministration," said Lightfoot, ding: "I'm hopeful that y will t be foolish eugh to bring that kind of nsense to Chicago. But I'm also t naive, and we're going to be diligent, and we're gonna be rey, and if we need to stop him, we are going to."

Lightfoot, a frequent Trump critic, slammed president in a Monday letter for "unhelpful" rhetoric and detailed ways federal government could help city to reduce violence, including gun safety reform, public safety support, community outreach and community investment.

Chicago resident Avis Weisman says idea of federal nts patrolling streets of Chicago is a "horrendous" idea.

"He (Trump) needs to cooperate with city and t bring destruction to city," said Weisman.
