Mike Pompeo condemns China-linked hacking into COVID-19 research in US

US Sec of State Mike Pompeo has condemned the incident and also called on China to stop the “malicious activity” of hacking into COVID-19 research by America.

After FBI warned US organisations of China-linked hacking into COVID-19 research, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has condemned incident and also called on Asian superpower to stop “malicious activity”. China and US have indulged in a fiery exchange of words over coronavirus outbreak and have accused each or of t effectively responding to global health crisis. Recently, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security ncy (CISA) issued statement that China-affiliated hackers are breaching research of COVID-19 disease in US.

In wake of that anuncement, Pompeo t only criticised China for refusing to share entire data of coronavirus infections but also called hacking as an extension of it “counterproductive measures throughout COVID-19 pandemic”. According to Department of State, People’s Republic of China-linked activities in cyber is stealing of intellectual property owned by US related to COVID-19 treatments, vaccines and cases. FBI, CISA h jointly said that “potential ft” of such critical information has ‘jeopardised’ delivery of secure, effective treatment of COVID-19 disease.

'Significant threat'

In a separate public service anuncement, FBI and CISA also warned all organizations that have started researching highly contagious disease of likely being compromised by China. Urging US firms to take “necessary steps to protect ir systems, government has said that organisations should be aware y are “prime targets” of China-linked activity. It even called entire incident a “significant threat”. 

statement said, “China’s efforts to target se sectors pose a significant threat to our nation’s response to COVID-19. This anuncement is intended to raise awareness for research institutions and American public and provide resources and guidance for those who may be targeted.”
