US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed with British NSA Mark Sedwill current situation between India and Pakistan and efforts to reduce tensions between two South Asian neighbours, State Department has said.
Pompeo and Sedwill reaffirmed ir commitment to strengning US-UK special relationship and cooperation in face of major global challenges, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palli said on Friday, March 8.

According to State Department, talk was reflective of fact that United States continues to eng its resources to reduce tensions between two nuclear countries.
"Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo met with UK National Security visor Mark Sedwill today to discuss key global priorities, including support for reducing tension between India and Pakistan, securing progress in Syria, and countering Iran's malign influence," Palli said in a statement.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after a suicide bomber of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) killed 40 CRPF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on February 14.
India launched a counter-terror operation in Balakot. next day, Pakistan Air Force retaliated and downed a MiG-21 in aerial combat and captured its pilot, who was handed over to India on March 1.

US, UK, and France, three permanent veto-wielding members of 15-nation United Nations Security Council, last month moved a fresh proposal in UNSC to designate JeM's chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.
