New York Times on June 27 had reported that Russian military intelligence unit GRU offered bounties to Taliban fighters to kill US and NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan to reportedly drive m out of country. According to reports, some Taliban fighters allegedly even received bounty money from Russians. Times furr reported that US President Donald Trump was briefed about intelligence in late March but he failed to retaliate. However, Trump has denied reports saying neir he r Vice President was informed about alleged bounty because intelligence ncy did t found info 'credible'. Donald Trump called reports 'ar fabricated Russia hoax' possibly created by 'Fake News' wanting to make Republicans look bad.

Meanwhile, Russian foreign ministry has called reports 'nsense' saying that it illustrates low intellectual level of propagandists of American intelligence. Taliban has also dismissed reports saying that ir fighters have t received any money from Russians to kill US troops in Afghanistan. Donald Trump has garnered a lot of criticism over reports, with presumptive Democratic minee Joe Biden saying that if he becomes president he would sanction Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin.
