moon landing of Apollo 11 was powered by a huge leap forward in techlogy and interestingly w hidden messs were uncovered inside computer programming code that drove flight software. Apollo 11 was launched by a Saturn V rocket from Kennedy Centre and it fulfilled goal of US President John F Kennedy of landing man on moon by end of sixties. It was fifth crewed mission of NASA’s Apollo programme and it h three parts including, a command module (CM) with a cabin for three astronauts, a service module (SM), which supported command module with propulsion, electrical power, oxygen, and water, and a lunar module (LM) that was used to touch down on Moon.

According to Express media outlet, when programmers at MIT Instrumentation Laboratory set out to develop flight software used for Apollo 11, y h to invent it, coming up with a new way to store computer programmes, called “rope memory”. MIT programmers wrote thousands of lines of esoteric code. While data h been available to public, it was first uploed to internet by tech researcher Ron Burkley in 2003, after he h transcribed it from scanned ims of original hard copies.

MIT got hold of scans and put m online in form of p ims, which unfortunately h been mutilated in process to point of being unreable in places. Burkey n h reconstructed illegible parts, using his engineering skills to fill in blanks. He h said that he mand to get some replacement scans for unreable parts and fortunately found out that parts filled in were 100 per cent correct.

However, code remained out spotlight for more than a dece, until NASA intern Chris Garry uploed it to code-sharing site GitHub. Within hours, coders n began dissecting software. It is worth ting that in programming, comments are plain-English descriptions of what task is being performed at a given point, but often coders leave light-hearted jokes.

According to reports, one of source code files, for example, is called ‘BURN_BABY_BURN—MASTER_IGNITION_ROUTINE’. In file titled ‘’LUNAR_LANDING_GUIDANCE_EQUATIONS,’ it appears that two lines of code meant to be temporary ended up being permanent, against hopes of one programmer. In same file, re’s also code that instructs astronauts to “crank silly thing around”.

Burkey said that code is all about positioning antenna for Landing Rar (LR). He said that he presumes that its displaying code to warn astronaut to reposition it. Furr, he explained that 'PINBALL_GAME_BUTTONS_AND_LIGHTS' file, which is described as “ keyboard and display system programme exchanged between AGC and computer operator,” re is even a reference to Shakespeare.

Burkey said that this is thought to because Apollo Guidance Computer (ACG) langu uses predetermined uns and verbs to execute operations. verb 37, for expanse, means “Run programme”, while un 33 means “time for ignitions,” Burkey explained. Since uploed, scores of developers have suggested changes and potential mistakes. code is believed to have been updated before future Apollo flights.
