NASA appoints Indian-American Bhavya Lal as acting chief of staff
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on February 1 named Indian-American Bhavya Lal as the acting chief of staff along with other key positions.

United States (US) ncy, National Aeronautics and ministration (NASA) on February 1 named Indian-American Bhavya Lal as acting chief of staff along with or key positions. In a statement, NASA said, it has named appointees for senior ncy positions. "Bhavya Lal joins ncy as acting chief of staff, Phillip Thompson will serve as White House liaison, Alicia Brown will serve as associate ministrator for Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Marc Etkind will serve as associate ministrator for ncy’s Office of Communications," re satement.
Bhavya Lal h also served as a member of NASA’s transition review team for incoming 46th US ministration of President Joe Biden after serving as research staff at Defence analysis Science and Techlogy Policy Insitute (STPI). While elaborating on her appointment, NASA hailed Lal for bringing “extensive experience” in both engineering and techlogy as member of STPI from 2005 and 2020. She has led an analysis of techlogy, strategy, and policy for White House Office of Science and Techlogy Policy and National Council along with federal -oriented organisations including US ncy, Department of Defense, and intelligence community.

Bhavya Lal’s recent projects
NASA said that Lal applied her “expertise in engineering systems and invation ory and practice to topics in , with recent projects on commercial activities in low-Earth orbit and deep , in-orbit servicing assembly and manufacturing, small satellites, human exploration, nuclear power, exploration, and science. She has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings".
Before joining STPI in 2005, Bhvya Lal served as president of C-STPS LLC which is a science and techlogy policy research and consulting firm in Waltham, Massachusetts, US after serving as director of Center for Science and Techlogy Policy Studies at Abt Associates Inc. in Cambridge. Furr, Lal has also served on at least five National Acemy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Committees including most recent one on Nuclear Propulsion Techlogies that will be released in 2021.
