New York to conduct separate review of Trump-approved COVID-19 vaccine

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has said that the city will conduct its own review of the potential COVID-19 vaccine even if it is approved by the federal dept.

New York Goverr Andrew Cuomo has said that city will conduct its own review of potential COVID-19 vaccine even if it is approved by federal department. Democratic leader, during a press conference on September 24, said that he does t trust Trump administration and hence will conduct a separate review of any COVID-19 vaccine approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Cuomo said that he will consult doctors, scientists, and health experts to review data on FDA-approved vaccine. "Frankly, I’m t going to trust federal government’s opinion, and I wouldn’t recommend to New Yorkers, based on federal government’s opinion," Cuomo said on Thursday.

What do critics argue?

Several opposition leaders, including Democratic presidential minee Joe Biden and his running-mate Kamala Harris, have said in past that y wouldn't trust President Donald Trump on coronavirus vaccine before upcoming vember election. Trump had earlier said that a COVID-19 vaccine for Americans will be available by end of this year, most probably before vember.

However, his critics argue that vaccine anuncement would be thing but a poll gimmick to hide his patic handling of disease that has killed more than 2,00,000 people in country so far. United States is currently worst affected country in world with over 7 million confirmed cases. Trump is accused of downplaying threat of disease that has spread outwards from China since early February. COVID-19 fatalities in US are w more than numbers of 9/11 attacks, Iraq and Vietnam wars death toll combined.
