Ahead of PM Modi's address at the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, Republic has accessed exclusive details of his speech. Sources have told Republic that the moment Prime Minister will complete his address at the UNGA, he will leave the hall. As per sources, a Junior Officer from the Indian mission, if required, will reply to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's speech at the UNGA. Sources have further revealed that PM Modi will not raise Kashmir issue in his speech, in the light of India's statement that Kashmir remains an integral and internal matter of India.
PM Modi will be raising the issue of India's permanent membership at the UNSC (United Nations Security Council), emphasising on its importance for the country, sources have added. He is also expected to raise the issue of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) in his speech.
The Prime Minister is likely to speak about the importance of cleanliness, in regard to his government's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan marking the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. With climate change becoming a worrying concern in today's environment, PM Modi is also likely to raise the issue of environmental concerns in his speech.
PM Modi's UNGA Address
The 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will begin at 9:00 AM ( New York) on September 27. PM Modi will be addressing the session at 10:00 am (NY)- 7:30 IST. The first to address will be President of Mauritius Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory. The general debate will be continued by the Vice-President of Indonesia and Prime Minister of Lesotho following which PM Modi will address the General Assembly. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is also scheduled to address the gathering after PM Modi's speech.
PM Modi meets Iranian President Rouhani
On Thursday, PM Modi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani held bilateral talks and exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest during their bilateral meeting at the UN. PM Modi met the Iranian President on the sidelines of the high-level 74th Session of the General Assembly where they exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
