US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on December 18 said that Russia was “pretty clearly” involved in the major cyberattacks on the federal agencies of the nation.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on December 18 said that Russia was “pretty clearly” involved in major cyberattacks on federal ncies of country. After White House flagged a cyberattack that h been impacting government ncies for several months recently, Pompeo told Mark Levin Show that re was a “significant effort” to use third-party software to embed foreign code inside systems. refore, US Secretary of State concluded that extra effort indicates Russians being involved in activity. 

“re was a significant effort to use a piece of third-party software to essentially embed code inside of US government systems,” said Mike Pompeo before ding, “This was a very significant effort, and I think it's case that w we can say pretty clearly that it was Russians that engd in this activity.”

Cyberattack on US federal ncies

In one of latest blows to US President Donald Trump’s ministration in its closing days, as many as 12 federal ncies were crippled with a massive cyberattack which is reportedly described as biggest breach in several years. Triggering speculation of Russian hackers’ involvement, US officials reportedly said that hacks have been ongoing for several months allowing ones who breached websites to monitor as well as re US’ confidential emails. 

Among impacted ncies are US Treasury Department, US Department of Commerce, Department of Defense, State Department and National Institutes of Health with ir security being compromised. Recently, FBI called cyberattacks “a developing situation”. In a joint statement, FBI, CISA and ODNI said on December 16  that y are putting toger a unified response to breaches while understanding its effect on networks within ncies.
