Mississipi has been reported to be the most obese state in the US according to a new survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The personal finance site WalletHub revealed its '2019 Fattest States In America' report on November 5 and found that Mississipi is the most obese state in the US. The reason for being the fattest state is because the state has the highest prevalence of children and adults who are obese and overweight. According to the reports, the four most obese states of the US after Mississipi are West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama.
Data were collected from 50 states across the US
The data was collected from all the 50 states across the US and Washington and the rankings were based in accordance with the obesity and overweight prevalence across America. The data also figured out the physical activity rates, health consequences and food consumption referred from the US Census, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and other organizations such as the Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative and the Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health.
On the other hand, Utah was ranked to have the least obesity rate followed by Colorado, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and California.
US has been dealing with obesity since 2003
The Well-Being Index and Gallup's National Health released data in February which placed West Virginia on the bottom of the well-being list for the 10th year in a row.US spends around USD 200 billion annually on obesity-related health issues.
America has a long history of obesity-related issues and the condition affected 93.3 million adults in the country from 2015 to 2016, according to the reports. The US obesity rates have been prevalent since 2003 and the rates are frequently increasing day by day. Non-Hispanic black, Hispanic, and Mexican American adults have higher rates of obesity as compared to non-Hispanic white adults. Obesity causes many health-related issues such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, stroke, and many other diseases.
