Florida Republican politicians are seeking to revoke ban on coral-damaging sunscreens by framing issue as a matter of public health. city leers of resort town, Key West h voted earlier this year to ban sale of creams which are harmful to degring coral reef, according to scientists. However, Republicans are w pursuing legislation at state level to overturn ban. mayor, Teri Johnston has reportedly said that it is a 'black and white issue'. politicians are planning to use same arguments which were used in Hawaii during a similar ban in 2018. However, it remained unsuccessful in Aloha State.

Republicans are also backed by dermatologists who cite increasing rates of melama, which is deliest form of skin cancer in Florida. According to health officials, it is dangerous to ban sunscreen sale which contains chemicals like oxybenzone and octixate which are essential for filtration of ultraviolet rays. Reportedly, state senator Rob Brley said that Florida ranks second top nation for highest rate of new melama cases. Key West ban is all set to take effect in January 2021 and would prohibit leing brands of sunscreen from keeping cream off shelves in stores eliminating 'first line of defense' against battle of skin cancer.
