Police in Troy, a northern suburb of Detroit, in US, confirmed a shooting at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital on Thursday, urging the public to avoid the area. Authorities described it as an "isolated incident" but did not confirm if there were any injuries or fatalities.

The Troy Police Department reported that the suspect remains at large, and a large police presence has been deployed to the hospital. The facility, which consists of multiple buildings, was placed on high alert as officers worked to secure the scene.

Emergency Alert Sent to Residents

Local residents received emergency alerts on their phones Thursday morning, warning of an active shooter and advising them to stay away from the hospital or shelter in place. WXYZ-TV, a local news channel, spoke to a woman who was inside the hospital for a scheduled mammogram and was sheltering on the first floor with other patients.

Corewell Health confirmed in a post on social media that "one person is in the emergency department for medical treatment," but did not provide additional details.

According to a report from AP, A police dispatcher said no further information could be shared at this time, and authorities are continuing their investigation.

Hospital Attacks on the Rise

While details about the suspect and their motive remain unclear, hospital violence has become a growing concern in the United States. Security experts say incidents like these often occur in emergency departments, maternity wards, or intensive care units, where tensions can run high.

Last month, a similar attack took place in York, Pennsylvania, when an armed man carrying zip ties took hospital staff hostage in the intensive care unit before being killed in a shootout with police.

Hospital security consultant Dick Sem noted that many hospital shootings are not random mass shootings but rather targeted attacks. "The shooter is often targeting somebody, sometimes resentful about the care given a relative who died," he explained to AP.

Troy, a city with a population of over 87,000, is located about 22 miles north of Detroit. As of now, police continue to search for the suspect, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
