Stolen lemur returned to San Francisco Zoo

A ring-tailed lemur stolen from San Francisco Zoo has been found. 21-year-old male lemur named Maki was discovered missing shortly before zoo opened to visitors on Wednesday. Investigators found evidence of a forced entry to lemur enclosure.

Someone called police Thursday evening to say that Maki was spotted in Daly City, a few miles south of zoo. He was found in a church playground where animal control was able to safely capture and return him to zoo. Maki was found to be in good health but is isolated from rest of lemurs for w.

Investigators in city of San Rafael, about 20 miles from zoo, later arrested a suspect, 30-year-old Cory McGilloway. Police say he'll be charged with burglary, grand ft of an animal, looting and vandalism. Police would t speculate on suspect's possible motive or give details on what led up to his arrest, citing ongoing investigation. Maki was born at zoo in 1999 and has an offspring in enclosure. outdoor lemur habitat houses seven different lemur species native to Madagascar. Many are endangered.
