US military dogs chased elusive Abu Bakr al-Baghdi down a dark underground tunnel in rrn Syria before ISIS chief detonated a suicide vest that injured one of specialised dogs, according to President Donald Trump. Baghdi, ISIS leer who h a USD 25 million bounty on his he, died ON Saturday evening after US-led special forces raided his compound in Idlib Province, where he was hiding along with members of his family and some close aides.

Watched Baghdi crying and screaming

Trump, who watched whole operation live from White House Situation Room, said Baghdi spent his final moments "crying, "whimpering" and "screaming" after being cornered by US forces along with military dogs. "He reached end of tunnel, as our dogs chased him, Trump told reporters at an unusual press conference on Sunday at White House.  "He (Baghdi) ignited his vest, killing himself and three children," Trump said.

"Our 'K-9,' as y call it," Trump said, "I call it a dog. A beautiful dog, a talented dog was injured and brought back." " injury to dog is an injury to one of us. se dogs are a special breed of courous," one soldier assigned to Delta Force told Washington Examiner.

US forces' use of dogs was reminiscent of Navy SEALs deploying a dog during raid on al Qaeda chief Osama bin Len's compound in Pakistan's Abbottab city in May 2011 that resulted in his death.

White House and Pentagon have t provided details about dogs, or status of one injured, Fox News report said. Ron Aiello, a retired Marine cited by New York Times, said dogs likely were eir German shepherds or Belgian Maliis breed used in raid on bin Len.

"If y're leing patrol, y want a dog that is t only an explosive detection dog but on command can be aggressive, Aiello said. "On a mission like this you want a dog that can be aggressive when necessary," Aiello said.

'Great night for United States'

Baghdi died after running into a de-end tunnel, whimpering, crying and screaming, Trump said. "Last night was a great night for United States and for world. A brutal killer, one who has caused so much hardship and death, was violently eliminated  he will never again harm ar incent man, woman or child.  "He died like a dog. He died like a coward. world is w a much safer place," president said.
