The World Health Organization's director-general wished "a full and swift" recovery to U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania on Friday, after Trump announced on Twitter that he and the first lady tested positive for the coronavirus.
Speaking from Geneva, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said his prayers are with the president and the first lady.
He spoke after another virus related-milestone was marked this week as the world passed one million deaths from the virus.
The Trump administration in July formally notified the United Nations of its withdrawal from WHO, although the pullout won’t take effect until next year.
Trump claims the U.N. health agency is in need of reform and accused the international body of being unduly influenced by China.
Trump is the most prominent on a growing list of powerful people who have contracted the virus, including many who were skeptical of the disease.
