Indian-origin Senator Kamala Harris launched her 2020 presidential bid on Sunday, January 27, with a scathing rebuke of President Donald Trump's policies, alleging that US democracy was under attack like never before.

Recollecting fighting spirit of her Indian mor, Shyamala Gopalan, who migrated to US from Tamil Nu for studies, Harris told a cheering crowd in her hometown of Oakland, California, that this was t going to be an easy election pitted against an incumbent like Trump.

"My mor used to say don't sit around and complain about things. Do something," 54-year-old, said rebuke in her impressive speech that lasted for more than 30 minutes.

"With fighting spirit I got from my mor, I stand before you today to anunce my candidacy for president of  United States. And I will tell you, I'm running for president, because I love my country. I am running to be president, of people, by people and for all people," Harris told crowd estimated to be around 20,000, a few blocks away from where she was born.

Harris anunced her presidential candidacy on January 31, on Martin Lur King Jr Day and, within days, has been voted on top of list of Democratic leers aspiring to defeat Trump in vember 2020 election.

All of m have to pass through a grilling presidential primary beginning next January, winner of which would be anunced in Democratic National Convention in July 2020. minee would challenge incumbent Trump in  presidential election in vember that year.

Quoting former presidential candidate Robert Kennedy, Harris said challenging an incumbent is t easy. "Of course, we kw this is t going to be easy guys. We kw what doubters will say is that y always say, y'll say it's t your time. y'll say, wait your turn. y'll say, odds are long. y'll say, it can't be done.... But, America's story has always been written by people who can see what can be unburdened by what has been... that's our story."

"I say to you my friends, se are t ordinary times, and this will t be an ordinary election. But this is our America.... We can reclaim American dream for every single person in our country. We can restore America's moral leership on this planet," she ded.

Asserting that she running to fight for an America where ecomy works for working, Harris promised education and healthcare for all if elected as 46th US president. She was first African-American and Indian-American attorney of California, before being elected as US Senator. Alrey having many firsts in her name, Harris will be first woman president of country if she wins.

Ripping apart Trump over his plan to build a wall along  Mexico border to prevent illegal immigrants, Harris described it as a "medieval vanity" project.

"We are here kwing, we are at an inflection point in history of our world. We are at an inflection point in history of our nation. We are here because of American dream and our American democracy are under attack and on line like never before.

She alleged that racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and transphobia were real in this country.  Alleging that too many black and brown Americans are being locked up for mass incarceration, she called for drastic repair of criminal justice system. "Let's also speak truth that too many unarmed black men and women are killed in America."

Critical of Trump's foreign policy, Harris said under this ministration, America's position in world h never been weaker. "When democratic values are under attack around globe when authoritarianism is on March when nuclear proliferation is on rise when we have foreign powers infecting  White House like Malware, let's speak about truth our present danger," she said.

"And let's face biggest truth, biggest truth of all: In face of powerful forces trying to sow hate and division among us, truth is that as Americans we have so much more in common than what separates us," she ded.
