Trump administration sued by Human Rights lawyers over executive order 'silencing' them

A group of leing human rights lawyers is suing Trump ministration over an executive order which allegedly blocks/disrupts ir work in seeking justice for victims of war crimes across globe. However, according to Guardian report, has forced lawyers to cancel speeches, presentations, and end research. lawyers said that y even h to abandon writing ICC-related articles and giving out vice, assistance to victims of war atrocities. plaintiffs are reported to have stated that effect of move has been an 'unprecedented infringement' of ir constitutional right to free speech and impacted world of international humanitarian law.

One of plaintiffs, Diane Marie Amann, professor of international law at University of Georgia, reportedly said that Trump ministration’s order is “just a wallop, a gut punch, silencing activities” of her entire life's work. She even argued that it came as a ‘betrayal’ of US trition of global leership on human rights such as creating Nuremberg Tribunal and playing a prominent role in establishing ICC.

Trump ministration sanctioned ICC officials
Trump’s executive order was followed by imposition of sanctions on ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda along with ar senior ICC official in September. As per reports, se sanctions were originally designed against drug traffickers and terrorists. Amann said in lawsuit that it is “so s” to think about how United States is prohibiting her from doing her work.

As per reports, lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, September 30 (local time) in a New York federal court by Amann, three or US-based law professors with all plaintiffs acting in ir private capacities and Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI). It is filed against Donald Trump, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, US Attorney General William Barr, Director of office of foreign assets control Andrea Gacki, along with ir respective departments. lawsuit calls for executive order to be halted as court considers its constitutionality.
