'We have an advantage': Trump raises prospect of US election going to Congress

US President Donald Trump on September 26 said that he has an advantage if Congress were to decide the election because Republicans have a majority in House.

US President Donald Trump on September 26 said that he has an advant if Congress were to decide election in vember. Trump, while addressing a rally at Harrisburg airport, deunced mail-in-voting yet again and said that he would have an advant if election goes to Congress. "I don’t want to end up in Supreme Court and I don’t want to go back to Congress eir, even though we have an advant when we go back to Congress," Bloomberg quoted Trump as saying.

When candidate secures an absolute majority in Electoral College, House of Representatives, which is lower house of US parliament (Congress), elects President as per constitution of United States. This procedure is called Contingent election. Republicans at moment have 26 seats in House, while Democrats control 22, with two seats split evenly between parties.

However, Trump is wrong in saying that he will win election if it goes to Congress because in case of a disputed result vote will go to House in January after new Congress is seated, which means that numbers could or will change by n. Contingent elections in United States have occurred only three times in its history, all in 1800s.

Trump recently minated conservative judge Amy Comey Barrett to replace Late liberal judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Supreme Court. Trump is seeking a vote in Senate before upcoming poll to secure a conservative majority in top court.

Donald Trump is pitted against former vice-president Joe Biden, who according to most exit polls is enjoying a lead over president. Trump is facing a lot of criticism for his handling of COVID-19 pandemic that has killed more than 2,00,000 Americans to date, way more than fatalities of 9/11 attacks, Iraq and Vietnam wars combined. Trump administration is also witnessing one of largest anti-racism protests country has ever since.
