Amid the ongoing migrant crisis in the United States, former US President Donald Trump said that the immigrants that are arriving in the United States are “poisoning the blood” of the country. The proclamation by the Republican presidential frontrunner came during his provocative address at a New Hampshire rally on Saturday, The Guardian reported. In the past, the business mogul turned politician has been condemned for using fascist terminology like “vermin” to describe the section of the American society.

“They’re poisoning the blood of our country. That’s what they’ve done,” Trump told the crowd and surprisingly received a thunderous applause. “They’re coming into our country, from Africa, from Asia, all over the world," he added. This is the second time the former US President has made such remarks in New Hampshire. In the last rally held in the same state, he threatened to “root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country that lie and steal and cheat on elections” and in the Saturday statement, he doubled down on the claims.

The last time Trump made claims like migrants are “poisoning America,” US President Joe Biden called him out and compared his speeches to those that were made in Nazi Germany. “Trump also recently talked about, ‘The blood of America is being poisoned’ … Again, echoes the same phrases used in Nazi Germany,” Biden said at the time.

Trump's stance on immigration

The former US President is known for his hardline stance on immigration. During his campaign trail, Trump pledged to finish his ambitious border wall if he gets re-elected. He also vowed to reinstate other stringent measures like reinstitute travel bans and launch mass deportation efforts. Not only this, he plans to end birthright citizenship for those born to immigrants living in the country illegally, Politico reported.

During the Saturday rally, Trump said that he would “restore and expand” his bans on travel to the US - just like in 2017 when he forbid entry to several immigrants belonging to Muslim-majority countries and African nations. He concluded his remarks by saying he would “implement strong ideological screening for all illegal immigrants”.
