US Capitol police chief claims request for help declined on multiple occasions during riot
Capitol police chief Steven Sund, who recently announced his resignation, has said that his request for additional help was declined or delayed on Jan 6.

US Capitol police chief Steven Sund, who recently anunced his resignation, said that his request for ditional support during storming of US Congress building on January 6 was declined or delayed. Sund, while speaking to Washington Post, said that he h me several requests to House security officials to initiate formal steps to keep National Guard on standby but his requests were igred. This comes after reports emerged that or branches of law enforcement ncies were rey to provide more people to secure US Congress building but one from US Capitol police asked for help.

Kenneth Rapua, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Global Security in US DoD, said last week that Pentagon was rey to provide ditional resources to US Capitol police but was told y would t require outside help. However, Sund in his latest interview to Washington Post contricted Rapua's claim and said he requested House and Senate security officials several times to keep National Guard on call, but it fell on deaf ears. Sund said if US Capitol police h support of that extra resource from National Guard, y could have held protesters at bay for longer until more help arrived.
