As the US election is right around the corner, a survey predicted who is likely to get the support of Indian Americans. According to the latest survey conducted, most voters of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities are likely to support former Vice President Joe Biden. The survey also predicted that Biden is likely to beat President Donald Trump. However, the report also found a three-way tie between the former Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Elizabeth Warren among the AAPI voters. 

According to the poll, one can also see a calculated satisfaction among three other AAPI candidates including Senator Kamala Harris, who is the first Indian origin US senator. Representative Tulsi Gabbard, the first Hindu running for US presidency and Andrew Yang, who belongs to the Chinese origin. Andrew Yang, however, leads the second tier of preferred candidates as the respondents see him as the candidate who best understands issues that are faced by the AAPI populations. The two candidates, Harris and Yang do not differ as such with their numbers among the AAPI group. Harris has older voters support, whereas Yung is supported mostly by the younger lot.

US Prez disapproved by AAPI

The AAPI Victory Fund only represents the Democratic candidates and the survey conducted shows significant disapproval for President Trump has strengthened. The AAPI voters appeal mainly for a progressive stance on immigration and education policies with concerns over climate change and healthcare. They feel relatively neutral about the decline in H1B visas which are allocated for the tech worker and they also find increasing difficulty in obtaining student visas. With regard to these issues, the voters feel disappointed by the approach that was taken by the Trump administration.

The survey

The survey was released on September 08 in connection to the first-ever AAPI Democratic Presidential Forum held in Costa Mesa, California. Ben Greenfield of Change Research alleged that the AAPI voters are roughly aligned with other Democratic primary voters on their presidential preferences and their choices are being guided by concerns unique to their communities. He further added that the AAPI voters feel direct threats from White nationalism, racial and religious profiling. AAPI voters are also more focused than other Democratic primary voters on issues like education and preventing gun violence.
