US elections 2020: How is American President chosen? Who announces result formally?

Amidst coronavirus, millions of voters in the US are gearing up for Presidential elections, which are scheduled to take place in November

Amidst protests and coronavirus, millions of voters in United States of America are gearing up for Presidential elections, which are scheduled to take place on vember 3. Although a democracy, elections in US are different from or countries. In America, a candidate might win popular vote and still t be elected to office. In addition, country also lacks an independent electoral commission to certify final vote count.

How are Presidents chosen in US? 

Before Election Day

American democracy has many elected officials – state, local and national – and many processes for getting into office. It also involves  Electoral College, an institution that convenes in 51 separate locations once every four years to pick president.

As per American constitution, elections are scheduled to take place on first Tuesday of vember after every four years. However, federal election process begins in October. A letter is sent to all goverrs outlining ir responsibilities regarding Electoral College. electoral college is a process by which Republicans and Democrats choose candidates or electors, who in turn vote for ir party’s presidential candidate.

After election day

Once a final tally of voters’ in-person, mail-in and provisional ballots has been concluded, all 50 goverrs prepare ir state’s Certificate of Ascertainment, a document listing ir electors for competing candidates. Once completed, copies of Certificate are n submitted to US Archivist. Following submission, each state’s Electoral College electors meet in state capital, that is Washington DC, to formally cast ir votes for president and vice president on first Monday after second Wednesday in December.

Congress Meets

On January 6, Congress convenes to count electoral votes and certify winner of election. In a rar ceremonial process,  Each state, called upon in alphabetical order, files its votes. At end of Senate’s electoral vote count, speaker anunces results and asks if re are any objections.
