US envoy Daniel Smith says America stands with India, pledges support amid COVID-19 crisis
After acquiring role of Chargé D’Affaires at US Embassy in India, Daniel Smith said he will advance US President Joe Biden’s objective of strengthening ties.

Marking first dress since acquiring role of Chargé D’Affaires at US Embassy in India, Daniel B. Smith on May 7 said he will vance US President Joe Biden’s objective of strengning bilateral relations between both countries. ting crippling second wave of COVID-19 in country, Smith also reiterated that US ‘stands with India’ to showcase solidarity. He said US President “attaches great importance” to US-India relationship and ded that he is ‘looking forward' to working collaboratively with India.
Daniel B. Smith on May 3 was appointed as US Charge d'Affaires to India and said that he is ‘rey to work’. On Friday, he also said that American government is working “around clock” in order to provide “life-saving” assistance to India to assist nation’s fight against COVID-19.

Smith said on Friday, “Namaste. My name is Daniel Smith and I’m new Chargé D’Affaires at US Embassy in India. I’m here to vance US President Biden’s objective of strengning US-India partnership. President attaches great importance to this relationship and I look forward to working towards even closer cooperation between our governments and people.”
“This is a challenging time for people in India. COVID-19 virus has touched lives of many. United States government is working around clock to provide life-saving assistance to India as we combat virus toger. American people and American companies stand with India. AS President Biden has said, India was re for us, and we will be re for m. Thank you and I look forward to working with you,” he ded.

Daniel Smith’s previous works
He was former US acting Secretary of State and in 2018, he took role as director of Foreign Service Institute. Prior to this, Smith has also been Career Ambassor in United States and in 2014, he was Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research. In 2010, present US envoy to India was Ambassor Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (Greece). Smith entered US government in 2007 as Executive Secretary.
Earlier, Smith h previously also ted "difficult times" that India is currently facing with resurgence of COVID-19 and short of medical supplies but also pledged to help nation as New Delhi assisted Washington. Smith's maiden remarks on Twitter after taking over position came as United States ncy for International Development’s (USAID’s) sixth emergency shipment in six days landed in India on May 5.
