US FDA willing to allow use of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate before clinical trials end

Triggering fresh waves of concerns, FDA has indicated that it might allow the use of US' COVID-19 vaccine candidate before the standard clinical trials end.

Triggering fresh waves of concerns, he of US Food and Drug ministration (FDA) indicated that he might allow us of America’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate before tritional clinical trials are concluded. While coronavirus outbreak has continued to tighten its grip across world and US remains most virus-hit country in world with over 6 million infections, desperation to derive a suitable vaccine has only grown more intense. 

However, while global research of COVID-19 vaccine is still ongoing, US FDA commissioner Stephen Hahn told Financial Times in an interview published recently that he was prepared to issue emergency use authorisation for COVID-19 vaccine before end of final st of human trials that are aimed at stringent testing of drug’s safety and efficacy. Hahn claimed that standard he has applied would be “that benefit outweighs risk” in a public health emergency.

Reaffirming his stance on issue, US FDA Commissioner also mentioned that his decision will t be influenced by political pressure amid tense atmosphere of upcoming presidential elections in US. Stahn said that COVID-19 vaccine research will be dominated by science, medicine and data and t politics. However, his statements reportedly sparked concerns among public health experts about apparent willingness to consider fast-tracking vaccine over standard testing process.

AstraZeneca begins final st trial

Meanwhile, UK’s AstraZeneca has begun final large-scale human trial of its COVID-19 vaccine in US, company said in a statement. British pharmaceutical giant plans to enrol as many as 30,000 ults at 80 sites in US to test shot that has shown promising results in previous trials. This phase 3 trial is being implemented as part of Operation Warp Speed in US, which aims to deliver 300 million doses of a safe, effective vaccine for COVID-19 by January 2021.
