US President Donald Trump on Friday signed Policy Directive-5 (SPD-5), establishing a set of principles for protecting nation's assets from various cyber threats.

Americans rely on capabilities provided by systems in everyday life and President Trump’s directive promotes practices to protect country’s systems and capabilities from cyber vulnerabilities and malicious threats, said Scott Pace, executive secretary of  National Council.

Policy Directive-5 provides a government framework to safeguard assets and critical infrastructure, he ded. SPD-5 cybersecurity measures will be incorporated into all sts of -system development and operations.

Along with protective software, directive will be used for screening everyone who touches command lines for a craft, monitoring ground-based networks for intrusion and encrypting telemetry links between a satellite and ground.

SPD-5 also recognizes large role of private sector, directing government ncies to work with commercial companies to establish cybersecurity rms throughout America’s industrial base for systems.

US officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, have stressed that nation's long-held dominance is being greatly challenged by Russia and China.  signing of SPD-5 connects with that narrative.
