Snow and cold weather has put a damper on a wildfire that forced thousands of people to evacuate in northern Colorado and burned part of Rocky Mountain National Park.

However, fire officials warned Sunday that the shift in the weather would not be enough to put out the blaze.

In Rocky Mountain National Park, firefighters have been able to keep the fire from spreading across Bear Lake Road, a scenic roadway.

The East Troublesome Fire has destroyed around 301 square miles, an area about the size of New York City.

Satellite images taken by Maxar above Grand County show the area damaged.

The second-largest wildfire in Colorado state history is 10% contained.
