US Senator urges tech giants to keep 'digital evidence' associated with Capitol attack

US Senator who is also the incoming chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee urged tech giants in a letter to preserve content related to Capitol riots.

As US federal nts arrested more rioters involved in shocking Capitol Hill siege, Senator Mark Warner who is also incoming chairman of Senate Intelligence Committee, urged tech giants in a letter to preserve digital content related to riots. chaos engulfed one of most iconic buildings in United States on same day lawmakers convened to certify victory of President-elect Joe Biden. In his letter, Warne stressed that rioters took time to t only document event but also share it across social media websites with texts “to celebrate ir disdain for our democratic process.”

In letter dressed to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Warner wanted social media giant to ‘immediately preserve any and all posts’, communications and or media on all its entities associated with US Capitol siege. He wrote, “I encour you to undertake reasonable measures to identify this content in order to preserve it in connection with, or anticipation of, formal legal process requests you may receive”. Warner sent similar letters to eleven companies’ CEO including mobile carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon and techlogy companies Apple, Facebook, Gab, Google, Parler, Signal, Telegram, and Twitter.

" U.S. Capitol is w a crime scene," wrote Warner in all his 11 letters. “ FBI and or law enforcement ncies are currently investigating events of that day, and trying to piece toger what happened and perpetrators involved. prospect of litigation on behalf of victims of mayhem also is highly likely."

"Messaging data to and from your subscribers that may have participated in, or assisted, those engd in this insurrection – and associated subscriber information – are critical evidence in helping to bring se rioters to justice," he ded.
