WHO chief says he will continue leading COVID-19 response after Trump's threat
WHO chief said that he would continue leading the global fight against COVID-19 after US President Donald Trump threatened to permanently freeze the funding.

World Health Organisation (WHO) chief said that he would continue leing global fight against COVID-19 after US President Donald Trump threatened to permanently freeze funding. During his closing remarks at World Health Assembly on May 19, WHO Director-General Tedros ham Ghebreyesus said that UN health ncy is currently focussed on fighting pandemic with every tool at its disposal.
“We will continue providing strategic leership to coordinate global response, and support efforts by countries,” said top WHO official.
Dr Ghebreyesus emphasised on commitment of health ncy saying WHO will continue shipping diagstics, personal protective equipment and or medical supplies all over world and bringing toger leing experts from around world to develop technical vice, based on best science.

“We will continue working with countries and all relevant partners to ensure equitable access to tools to prevent, detect and treat COVID-19,” he ded.
WHO chief thanked member states for opting resolution which calls for an “impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation” of global COVID-19 response and inquiry into actions of WHO and “timelines pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic”. Dr Ghebreyesus said that he will initiate such an evaluation at earliest appropriate moment.

'Commit to major improvements'
On May 19, Trump me public a letter written to WHO chief in which he gave a 30-day deline to UN health ncy to make major improvements, warning that orwise temporary funding freeze will be me permanent. Trump said that his ministration’s probe into WHO’s COVID-19 response confirmed its “alarming lack of independence” from China.
“I will make temporary freeze of United States funding to World Health Organisation permanent and reconsider our membership in organisation,” wrote Trump.
