A member of the Syrian opposition's Civil Defense paramedic group, also known as White Helmets, was buried Saturday after the group said government forces shelled one of their centers in central Syria.

The shelling earlier on Saturday killed one and wounded six, some seriously, the director of the center, Samer Nassar, told The Associated Press.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights gave the same toll for those killed and wounded.

The one-story structure used by the paramedic group in the central Syrian town of Qastoun was heavily damaged and in parts reduced to rubble.

Frontlines between government forces and opposition fighters have witnessed bombardment over the last weeks.

The area had been relatively calm after Russia and Turkey agreed on a cease-fire in March last year that stopped a Russian-backed government offensive on the last rebel stronghold in Syria.
