Voters in Burkina Faso began casting their votes in the country's presidential and legislative elections on Sunday. Polling stations opened at 6am local time (0600 GMT) as people gathered to elect the country's next president. Police forces and observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), as well as Burkina Faso's Civil Society, were overseeing proceedings at polling stations throughout the country. Trade worker Alizeta Ouedraogo said she was voting for "peace" as well as to improve the country's health and education systems.

There are 13 candidates standing for election, including President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré. The CENI is to provide the first round of results within 24 hours.
